La Canne de Combat (French Cane) traces its roots to the original academies of France in the mid-19th century, when every properly dressed gentleman and lady carried a walking cane, both as a fashion accessory and for self-protection in the back alleys of Paris. This art was taught in conjunction with savates empty hand skills to create a fully integrated and functional martial art.
Practice with La Canne helps develop flexibility, suppleness of body, complete coordination, and overall confidence. For those interested in competion, La Canne de Combat is also practiced for sport, with Championships held every year in France.
All NJ SAVATE Instructors (Moniteur) and Coaches (Initiateur) are specially trained and certified via comprehensive examinations by the Fédération Française de Savate/Boxe Française (a Paris, France branch of the French Ministry of Culture), the United States Savate Federation and the New Jersey Savate Federation.
